Kappa`s statistics measure the degree of agreement observed between coders for a number of nominal ratings and corrections for an agreement that would be expected by chance, and offer a standardized index of IRR that can be generalized between studies. The observed degree of match is determined by cross-tables for two coders, and the randomly expected agreement is determined by the frequencies of each coder`s ratings. Kappa is calculated on the basis of the equation « What is reliability between rats? » is a technical way of asking « How many people agree? ». If Interrater`s reliabily is high, they are very consistent. If it is low, they do not agree. If two people independently encode certain interview data and largely match their codes, this is proof that the coding scheme is objective (i.e. the same thing is what the person is using) and not subjectively (i.e. the answer depends on who is encoding the data). In general, we want our data to be objective, so it is important to note that reliability between advisors is high. This worksheet covers two ways of developing the interrateral reliabiltiy: percentage agreement and Cohens Kappa. In the case of realistic datasets, calculating the percentage of agreement would be both laborious and error-prone.

In these cases, it would be best to get R to calculate it for you so that we practice your current registration. We can do this in a few steps: Interrater`s reliability is the level of agreement between councillors or judges. If everyone agrees, IRR is 1 (or 100%) and if not everyone agrees, IRR is 0 (0%).
